Engineering Change Order
Changes to customer
specifications and requirements are inevitable in contract manufacturing. Some customers make changes informally electing to communicate changes verbally or via e-mails or fax
transmissions. Others are more sophisticated using formal methods such as an engineering change order system. The system generally has a paper based form with a corresponding index to keep
track of each ECO that was issued.Because each contract manufacturing customer's change process is different so are the forms they develop to document their engineering changes. Because
changing a products specifications can be a complex affair the forms developed to facilitate this process can be equally complex as well. Often the forms are created by engineering
personnel and that tends to increase the degree of complexity in the ECO form. |
